IT'S been a mixed week for Mark Collier in the transfer market with one target agreeing a move to Hunts Copse and another slipping through his fingers.
Winger Jeremy Newton has arrived from Newbury to boost Supermarine's attacking options. He goes straight into the squad for the Southern League visit of Paulton tomorrow.
But Calne striker Matt Pratley will not be making the switch, choosing to remain loyal to his friends at Bremhill View rather than test himself at a higher level a decision which baffles Collier.
"I'm disappointed," said the Marine boss.
"If Matt has any ambition in the game I would have thought he would want to play two divisions higher rather than stay and play with his mates.
"I have other irons in the fire though and we hope to get a couple more on board over the weekend but not in time for Paulton."
Tomorrow's visitors bring some familiar faces.
Ian Hedges had a brief spell at Marine under John Murphy, while Andy Sandell and Mark Harrington were favourites at Melksham and Chippenham respectively.
Another ex-Bluebird on show is striker Steve Tweddle, now a veteran at 34, but still banging in the goals since a recent switch from Bath City.
And Paulton manager Darren Perrin also made his name at Melksham before a stint as coach at Forest Green.
The club were promoted to Division One West in the summer and have started to find their feet of late, winning team of the month for December.
Collier knows exactly what to expect from the in-form visitors.
"I know Darren well and quite a few of their players," he said.
"The likes of Tweddle and Harrington have played at a higher level and are very experienced.
"We watched Paulton when they beat Gloucester 1-0 in the week.
"They are very direct and strong and that's something we've got to cope with.
"But we held Rothwell last week and they are flying so we fear no-one."
Dave Gee is Marine's only injury doubt. The wide man faces a fitness test on a hamstring strain.
