SOME of the 767 Swindon residents who opted for energy saving measures in their homes will be given a cash award.
Electricity company npower will give a £4,000-prize to the Old Town and Lawn community on Thursday to recognise the council ward where residents did the most to save energy. The cash will be presented to the local community project, Leaves, which assists elderly people with garden maintenance.
Other prizes include £500 to north Swindon resident Ray Springett, who has installed cavity wall insulation.
He said: "I put in the insulation to try and conserve heat in the house."
Runner-up prizes went to five other Swindon residents.
Through energy-saving measures like fitting low energy lightbulbs and solar panels, Swindonians have helped to stop at least 270 tonnes of carbon dioxide escaping into the atmosphere.
