HAVING attended one of the recent meetings on the thorny issue of council tax, it is abundantly clear that Mike Bawden and his administration are trying to find the common ground that will provide adequate services, at reasonable cost to the taxpayer.

No one who attended the session could have walked away thinking that cutting services was the main aim of the exercise.

It was stressed from the platform that value for money was the driver, and many comments from the floor suggested that taxpayers are heartily fed up with indifferent services.

At last we appear to have an administration which is prepared to question council spending ensuring that taxpayers are protected from the excesses of annual double digit increases in council tax.
