75714-13A STUDENT has appealed to thieves who broke into his car to return his A-level notes.

Nicholas Sutton, a sixth former at St Joseph's school in Swindon, was distraught when his Vauxhall Corsa was broken into.

Although his stereo was stolen along with a remote controlled car, Nicholas says it's his study notes he's most concerned about.

The 18-year-old, who is studying physics, history and religious education at the Nythe Road school, was visiting his girlfriend in Surrey Road off Ferndale Road when the thieves struck.

Folders containing 18 months' work were inside a blue Nike bag, which was hidden under a seat.

Staff have extended his deadlines but are governed by what the examination boards say.

For more than a year, Nicholas, who wants to become an RE teacher, has carefully slotted shifts as a tutor at Swindon Learning Centre in County Road around his schoolwork.

Nicholas intends to go to Exeter University in September but he's been told that he must get at least two grade Bs and a C in his exams for a place.

He said: "Most of the notes that were stolen, about 500 handwritten pages, were for my physics exams and coursework.

He said: "I'm just totally gutted. I want them back. The thieves don't need them.

"I've still got to try and replace a year and a half's work by Easter. I'll do it but it's going to be hard."

The car break-in happened late on Wednesday night.

Alvina Kumar, spokeswoman for Swindon police, said: "We can confirm that a silver Vauxhall saloon was broken into in Surrey Street. Anyone with information should call us on 01793 528111."

Peter Wells head teacher of St Josephs said: "This is a disaster for Nicholas.

"He certainly will not have an easy half term. He will have a mountain of work to do."
