VICTORY at Southend United tomorrow night would help bring the club a step closer to a badly-needed pay day.

With Town now facing a winding up petition from HM Customs and Excise, some extra cash in the coffers would be more than a little useful.

An LDV Vans Trophy final could bring in hundreds of thousands of pounds in both gate receipts and commercial revenue.

Not that manager Andy King is thinking solely in those terms at the moment.

He feels victory at Roots Hall can act as a springboard to winning further matches.

Victory in Essex will leave King's men just 180 minutes from the Millennium Stadium, and the directors will be a step closer to a badly-needed pay day.

While the importance of the LDV Vans Trophy is not lost on King, he is simply looking at tomorrow's game as an opportunity to banish the losing blues.

He said: "It's about winning a football match and taking the rewards from it, whether it be an LDV area final or three points.

"Of course I'm taking it seriously.

"Winning at Southend will be the springboard to go and win another football match, this time against Stockport.

"I take a game at a time and each game I want to win.

"The fans expect to win, I expect to win, we're capable of winning and now we have to go and win.

"Whatever the rewards on offer we need to get back to winning ways."

While Town were losing 2-1 at Brentford on Saturday, their hosts tomorrow night secured a 1-1 draw at Mansfield.

Former County Ground keeper Bart Griemink is likely to miss out against his old club with a knee injury, but ex-Town triallist Fredy Eastwood is expected to feature.
