A FATHER and son from Aldbourne are waiting to see if their skills are needed to re-erect pieces of wartime history in America.
Last summer, Stephen and Keith Sowerby, dismantled six stables that were home to troops of the famous Easy Company as they prepared for the Normandy Landings.
Before Christmas the flattened-down stables were flown to Georgia home of 101st Airbourne Division where will be re-erected to form part of a lasting memorial to the men who died. Now the pair are waiting for the nod from US officials to help re-erect them.
Stephen said: "We're just waiting for a historical society in Georgia to sort themselves out then hopefully we'll be flying over.
"A concrete plinth for the stables to rest on still needs to be built."
It's hoped work will be completed by the end of October.
"The annual reunion of veterans from the 101st Airbourne Division takes place at the beginning of that month so it would be great to get it finished by then."
Easy Company was immortalised in the Spielberg-produced series Band of Brothers.
