MINETY have launched an appeal for new front row players after their understrength second string was forced to call off a match for the fourth league game in succession.

The forfeit against Warminster meant Minety lost another two points and left them stranded at the foot of the table on minus one point despite three wins this term.

A club spokesman said: "We currently have a number of players away or injured, but the big need for the 2nd XV is for front row forwards.

"We have a team of regulars eager to turn out and play for the seconds, but they can't take the field without a front row, and at the moment we simply don't have one.''

There was little weekend cheer for the first team either, as they slumped to a 79-10 thrashing at Tadley in Southern Counties South.

Tadley are Minety's only victims so far in the league a 22-8 success back in October but they gained ample revenge against the injury-hit visitors, who fielded six second teamers.

To their credit, Minety competed well up front, thanks largely to the excellent lineout jumping of flanker Max Smith.

But the greater pace of their opponents told.

n MALMESBURY notched up another win over Dorset & Wilts Two North opposition but were denied the two league points after their 36-3 demolition of Wellesley Arms.

The match was reduced to a 35-minute each way friendly because of the lack of a society qualified referee to take control.

Nevertheless Malmesbury, who have a 100 per cent league record, still ran in six tries.

They fell behind to an early penalty by ex-Malmesbury player Richard Gaunt.

But four first-half tries put them on top as Kris Arens, wing Simon Sharp, Graham Lemon and Justin King all crossed.

Fly-half wing Arens added two conversions for a 24-3 half-time advantage.

In the second period, Tom Neal touched down, Arens adding the extras and skipper Paul Hutton rounded off the triumph.
