AS is driving into Old Town isn't enough of a headache already, I have had cause for even greater concern caused by children.
On two occasions in the past fortnight I have had to take evasive action when children have either walked or run straight out in front of my car at the top of Kingshill.
This has happened before I have passed the mini-roundabout on an incredibly dangerous piece of road. The driver has to be aware of traffic approaching from the right and also of the movements of the car in front.
To have children mindlessly wandering out into this is asking for trouble. I finally lost my temper on Monday when I had to contend with three boys rather incredibly playing football on their way up the pavement.
Inevitably they kicked the ball into the road and it bounced hard off the side of my car. Rather than looking in any way apologetic, the youngster retrieved his ball and walked backwards along the pavement grinning from ear to ear. The smile was short lived as I grabbed my phone and took a rather good photo of the young lad.
The shocked expression makes one feel he may think twice before displaying such ignorant behaviour towards others in the future.
My question is, whose side would the police take?
Mine for trying to protect my property and prevent future accidents, or the children's for my use of a mobile phone. In this day and age, I think I already know the answer.
