GRAHAM Stickler hailed his Wootton Bassett title-chasers as they stayed on Frome's heels in Southern Counties South with a 19-13 home success over Dorchester.
The delighted coach saw two tries from Nick Parker and a Flo Vialan touchdown win the day at Stoneover Lane and said: "I'm really pleased for the team.
"The lads felt they hadn't done themselves justice against Supermarine in the cup last week, despite the win, and worked hard all week to put that right.
"That shows the character that this team is developing.''
Stickler added: "I was so impressed with the power we displayed and the way we dominated against what is a good Dorchester side who just refused to give in and who defended so well.
"That was a good test for us. We need to work on finishing teams off earlier when we do dominate and not panicking, but that will come as this team matures.
"We're coming along nicely.''
The victory completed a league double over Dorchester and the hosts started impressively.
Three minutes in, the pack destroyed their opponents in the first scrum of the game and fly-half Parker combined with centre Mike Dixon to score.
Tim Gallimore converted, but Dorchester landed a penalty a few minutes later to cut the deficit.
Bassett suffered a setback when young prop Gary Williamson clashed heads with No 8 Neil Smith making a tackle.
With his nose broken Williamson bravely attempted to continue after a short 'blood break', but was soon withdrawn complaining of dizziness.
Dorchester grabbed the lead when a slip allowed them a converted try.
On the half-hour Bassett were back on top, Parker again touching down after a neat side-step and another power-packed scrummage.
Gallimore again converted for a deserved half-time lead.
Dorchester moved to within a point with a penalty in the second half, but roared on by a large crowd, Bassett regained the initiative.
And 10 minutes from the end, the nerves were calmed when the forwards drove their opponents back to allow second row Vialan to claim the crucial third try.
DEVIZES completed a league double over Bradford on Avon with a 19-7 success on Saturday.
There were touchdowns from Charlie Rudler, Matt Monckton and Chris Billi, while fly-half James Pople added two conversions.
