DEFIANT Andy King is calling for unity after a section of supporters turned on him during last night's depressing LDV Vans Trophy exit at Southend United.
More than 300 fans made the trip to a bitterly cold Roots Hall and the nature of Town's 2-0 defeat caused tempers to fray.
King knows he will never be popular with everyone but is simply asking fans to unite to support Swindon Town Football Club.
He said: "The fans are very demanding. They turn on me in numbers at the first sign of a minor crisis.
"Yes, I am the one at the front to be picked on but it doesn't help at all.
"When the time's right to be hung, when I'm six points adrift at the bottom and taking the club down, then the directors will probably hang me."
King doesn't feel that time is now and wants the fans to back the team.
He said: "At the moment the fans have to remain supportive of the club. We have to be united.
"I just find it hard to believe and a little bit upsetting that after reaching the play-offs last year and currently sitting 11th in the league and being seven points behind the play-offs this time that I'm getting shouted at a bit.
"I am a little bit disappointed. I can assure those who don't like me, and I've been through this before, that when I feel I have to ask the question do you not want to play for me, then I'll know it's time and I'll walk away.
"When I think it's time I'll tell them. All I can say at the moment is that it's not helping.
"Let's all get together for Stockport on Saturday, from the terraces to the pitch.
"Forget what you feel about me, let's try and get a result and see what happens.
"If we keep losing then they'll get their wish."
