Sir Winston Churchill 1874-1965 VOTED Our Greatest Briton Sir Winston Churchill died on January 24, 1965.
We owe this great man so much, for his unique wisdom, strength of conviction and remarkable leadership during our nation's darkest hour.
His reassurance and powerful oratory in the early years of World War 11 sustained our faith that the cause for freedom was absolutely paramount, however tremendous the sacrifice. His historic speeches are legendary; always reiterating "We will fight them on the beaches, we will never ever surrender!''
One of the most moving and unforgettable moments for all who witnessed that sad and highly emotive day of his funeral was to watch the barge carrying him down the mighty River Thames. Alone on the still waters.
Everyone who experienced life during WWII will remember with heartfelt thanks the outstanding and crucial leadership of our Greatest Briton. We are forever in his debt for the freedom that we take for granted today.
