15191/1GAZETTE & HERALD: STARTING 20 minutes earlier at Colerne Primary School means a whole afternoon of fun on Fridays.
Since September pupils have started their lessons at 8.40am instead of 9am then finished at 1.30pm with the option of attending a fun club at the end of the week.
Director and trustee of the Me2 Fun Club, Megan Jones said this gives the teachers an afternoon to complete marking, plan their lessons and undergo training sessions.
"The children seem to love coming to Me2," Ms Jones said.
"It's great and it's important because the kids are getting everything that the curriculum doesn't allow anymore or doesn't have time for, like lots of sport."
Eighty-five children, about one third of the school attend the voluntary club. Each term they enjoy different activities but at the moment they are learning circus skills, drama and doing indoor athletics, like shot put, javelin and football.
"People seem to have settled into it very well and it seems to be working," Ms Jones said.
"It definitely has a positive effect on those children who come. They certainly enjoy it. I think it gives them a better outlook on what school is like."
