CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: WEST Lavington saw off the challenge of Corsham Cricket Club to open up a four point lead at the top of the Premier Division on Sunday.

Lavington, who beat Corsham 3-2 at the start of 2005, secured two more vital points in their quest for glory with a repeat scoreline.

On a weekend where more than half the fixtures were postponed, Jamie Rowe cancelled out Darren Thorpe's opener for Lavington, but it wasn't long before Simon Drewitt fired Lavington back in front.

Thorpe settled things in the 90th minute when he made it 3-1, but their was still time for Rowe to bag his second for Corsham to set up a tense final few moments.

Box Rovers failed to show for their match at Bradford News after players were out celebrating Andy Sibbick's 40th birthday the night before.

With Box not in action, Bradford based Dog & Fox Ashley took full advantage to leapfrog their rivals and claim second spot courtesy of their 9-1 defeat of Hullavington.

Dog & Fox were two up within ten minutes thanks to goals from Steve Roddy and Mark Gerrish. The Dog had to wait until the 41st minute before moving further ahead, once again Roddy was on target.

Ricky Trott made it 4-0 in the 55th minute, Nathan Gant's thunderbolt ten minutes later moved the score to 5-0 and two minutes later Steve Wickings completed the half dozen.

Roddy secured his hat-trick on 72 minutes and Wickings grabbed the Dog's eighth with a rasping 20 yard drive 15 minutes from time. Andy Martin hit Hullavington's consolation from the penalty spot before Roddy finished things off.

Had it not been for Hullavington's keeper Steve Skull the Dog may well have doubled their tally.

Injuries and work commitments led All Cannings to postpone their game with Westbury Rangers A .

DIVISION ONE

LEADERS Colerne were left frustrated at the postponement of their game with third in the table Winsley.

Their Freshford ground was deemed unfit to stage a second game in as many day's. Colerne, who are enjoying their centenary year, have surprised everyone as they head the table but with just one defeat from their 11 games they are worthy pace-setters.

North Star A will go into their forthcoming game with Colerne on the back of a fifth successive win that saw them move from seventh to third.

The Star were in total control against Chippenham Sports and Social Club and could have had a lot more than the six goals they did score had it not been for the keeper Graham Jones and some woeful finishing.

Tommy Ludford continued his purple patch in front of goal with his third hat-trick of the season, Mark Sharrett added two with Dale Smith's solitary effort making up the half dozen. Pete Thornton also missed a penalty.

Corsham Centre's manager Pete Ralph was left cursing his luck as his side missed out on the chance to close the gap. With one of his strongest sides of the season available to face Semington Rovers and despite his best efforts in preparing their Meriton Avenue pitch, Ralph was forced to concede to the elements.

Atworth United, without manager Stuart Holland, produced the goods at Calne as their 3-1 victory arrested a run of six straight losses. Glen Young's fifth minute strike for Atworth was wiped out two minutes later by Ben Horton. Dan Adams struck just before the break to put Atworth back in charge and the game was made safe by Craig Rees with the third.

After showing signs of becoming promotion hopefuls after four wins on the bounce, The Horse and Groom have fallen on hard times and a third consecutive loss has seen them fall into the bottom half of the table.

Having already beaten Wingfield 3-1 earlier in the season, The Horse were hopeful of claiming a league double that would have seen them get their roller-coaster season back on track, but with Wingfield out for revenge it came as little surprise that The Horse were beaten 5-2.

Two excellent 20 yard strikes from Alan House paved the way for Wingfield's success. His double was followed by a fantastic lob from Leigh Ovens for 3-0. Paul Aland pulled one back for the Horse but another stunning long range effort, this time from Lee Sines, restored Wingfield's three goal cushion before Paul Bendell weaved his magic to reduce the gap for the Horse once more. Ian Williams rounded things off for Wingfield when he headed home a Neil Wilcox corner.

DIVISION TWO

THE race for the Division Two title is heating up, and with none of the contenders showing signs of faltering the outcome could go right to the wire.

Wins for Potterne, Christian Malford and leaders Spencer Sports means there is no change at the top.

Spencer maintained their three point advantage after disposing of Sutton Benger. Spencer, who normally falter on their travels to Benger, finally overcome their nemesis with a 5-1 triumph. Gary Neate headed Spencer ahead with Dan King claiming their second. Their was no doubt about King's second of the game and two further goals from Ralph Plummer sealed Spencer's win. Mark Merriman replied for Benger.

Potterne stayed in touch with their 2-1 win at boggy Steeple Ashton.

Three minutes into the second half and after fine work from Johnny Emm whose shot was saved by Neil Taylor, Peter Huntley side footed home from six yards to give Potterne the lead.

Wayne Hillier replaced the injured Ben Giles and soon made his mark on the game with a well taken goal in the 70th minute, beating two defenders and slotting past the keeper.

Ashton pulled a goal back in the 88th minute after Tony Pritchard drove the ball past Mark Stonestreet in Potterne's goal.

Ashton continued to press in the last two minutes and were very unlucky not to equalise when a cross found Tom Pritchard unmarked, but his goal bound header was superbly saved by Stonestreet. Tim Brown reached another milestone for Ashton, his appearance marked his 200th for the club.

Christian Malford bounced back after last week's Knockout Cup departure to defeat The Crown Devizes, a win that saw them move above an inactive Southwick Sports into third place.

Tim Wootton latched on to keeper Tim Lock's long punt upfield to fire The Crown ahead. Scott Evans equalised and Alex Blake and Gary Blackwood scored before the interval to win the game for Malford.

The Crown had the chance to get something from the game and most probably should have but Wootton missed with a close range header and Niall McLean had a penalty saved by keeper Ben Mumms.

Parsons Nose and Corsham Park Rangers shared the goals and the points after drawing 3-3.

Rangers were at Parsons from the very first whistle and were unlucky not to take the lead in the first minute when Gordon Willshire's shot went just wide of the target.

Despite dominating the early exchanges Rangers fell behind when Parsons' Craig Townsend's shot went in off the upright in the 16th minute. Gavin Bailey went close to doubling Parsons lead but his header flashed inches over the bar.

On the half hour, Rangers keeper Stuart Beeho produced a brilliant save to deny Josh Robinson, but he was unable to prevent Wayne Bailey from making it 2-0 soon after when he met Gavin Bailey's corner to smash home.

Rangers pushed forward looking for a way back into the game and twice Willshire was denied by the woodwork and Kevin Streeter could only watch as his header sailed just over the bar.

Five minutes into the second half Willshire halved the deficit when his shot went in off the post.

Willshire hit the target again in the 68th minute to restore parity and moments afterwards the forward missed a glorious opportunity to give Rangers the lead. The woodwork came to Parsons rescue for the third time in the game and once again Willshire was Rangers' unlucky player.

Willshire finally got the reward that his performance deserved when in the 75th minute he intercepted a wayward ball and calmly slotted it home to put Rangers 3-2 up.

Parsons thought they had earned an equaliser three minutes from time but Bailey's effort was ruled out for offside, but a minute later a mix up in Rangers' defence allowed him to stroll in and make it 3-3.

DIVISION THREE

AFTER being unable to raise a side last week Bradstone Rovers bounced back by beating ten-men Somerford 5-3.

Chris Yeo and Ben Smith were on target for Somerford in the first period with Rob Lymath replying for Bradstone.

Yeo added a third for Somerford in the second half but it was not enough as Gary Lovelock netted twice from the penalty spot, and Andy Starolosky and Andy Lowe hit back to earn Bradstone a vital win.

Classic FC were unable to field a full strength team for their game with FC Bradford, playing the whole 90 minutes with just nine players in a 12-0 defeat.

Paul Tunnel helped himself to five, Mike Embleton (2), Jason Harford (2), Steve Bryant, super sub Lee Stevens and Steve Rose with his first of the season made up the 12.

Bradford's win saw them move back to the top due to leaders King Arms' game with Pig & Whistle United being lost to a waterlogged pitch.

DIVISION FOUR

BAR OC regained top spot in Division Four as they took full advantage of former leaders AFC Calne's inactivity after opponents Wanderers were unable to put together a team for their trip to Amesbury.

With The Beeches under water, AFC Pilot switched their game against Bar OC to Bromham which resulted in the hosts picking up a 3-0 victory.

After a goalless first half, Bar OC step up a gear as Darren Brown, Tom Paget and Tom Evans took control of the midfield, and they went ahead on 55 minutes.

Following a goalmouth scramble, hefty targetman Andrew Webster scored his 14th league of the season when he drilled his shot past Doel and Steve Bierne from ten yards.

Soon after, Danny Powell's cross was flicked on by Darren Brown to Pete Swales at the back post, keeeper Doel saved his shot but was powerless to stop Brown from rolling home the rebound from a yard.

And Powell joined his partner on 14 league goals with a brilliant individual effort with 25 minutes left. A slick piece of control and a clinical 15 yard drive into the bottom left corner wrapped up the points for the Devizes-based side.

Rowde sustained their impressive run with a 7-1 home success over AFC Melksham that stretched their unbeaten record to nine.

Martin Robinson smashed home a first half hat-trick, his first for Rowde, and Richard Hayter and Adam Ford made it 5-0 before the break.

The fireworks died down in the second period, with Rowde only finding the net twice through Ashley Edwards and Richard Hayter's whose goals sandwiched an excellent consolation from Lee Stripe.
