Young people looked after by the local authority need adults to befriend and support them, through Wiltshire's Independent Visitor Scheme.
The scheme needs to recruit people across the county who are prepared to befriend youngsters in foster, residential or other accommodation.
The young person's visitor could take them for a game of pool, go to a caf, visit somewhere new or just have a chat.
The Wiltshire County Council led initiative is looking for anyone who is over 21 and a good communicator.
The candidates must be able to make a long-term commitment to meet the young person for a couple of hours once or twice a month.
No formal qualifications are required, although patience, open-mindedness and an understanding of young people's issues are all essential.
Training and on-going support is provided, together with a mileage allowance and out-of-pocket expenses.
A young person previously involved in the scheme said: "It's fun because you look forward to going out to different places and you can talk to them if you have a problem it is brilliant."
Sheila Lupton, Wiltshire County Council's independent visitor manager, said: "The Independent Visitor Scheme is great for both volunteers and young people.
"We match Independent Visitors with young people according to their interests, personalities and preferences; this means they usually get on really well and often become friends for life."
