WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: PREMIER Division title contenders New College suffered a set back at Cricklade when the home side's Ian Ross netted a last-minute goal to give his side a 2-1 victory.
Disappointed College boss Pete Horwat said: "We didn't battle after the break, Cricklade wanted it more than we did and there were a few words said after the game. It was like men against boys I was really gutted."
The College had the better of the first half and after Mark Chatwin had given them the lead after just a quarter of an hour they never looked in any danger of conceding for the rest of the half.
It was different story in the second period as the home side piled on the pressure and missed a couple of clear cut chances before Martin Jackson levelled the scores.
They should have sewn the game up when College keeper Devon Brown pulled down Ben Carter and was sent off. Adam Smith took the resulting penalty but his spot kick hit a post and the ball was scrambled away to safety.
With the game looking to finish with honours even, Ross latched onto a pass to run through and snatch victory.
Cricklade manager Graham Jackson said: "After the penalty hit the post I thought it was going to be one of those days but the lads kept at it and came up with a late winner.
"I thought the College was as good a side as we have played this season, they are very fit and played some good football in the first half."
AFC Stratton boss Tony Dyer had a reshuffle, bringing in new faces Ricky Mazotta, Neil Robinson and Tim Russell from Forest Green and also appointed former Purton Reserves manager Ian Restall as his assistant.
It paid off as his side beat visitors Melksham 5-0.
Two goals from Robinson and one from Mazotta gave Stratton a three-goal lead at the break with Jimmy Wright and a penalty from Mazotta completing the win. "What a difference a shake-up can do," said the Stratton manager. "The side played really well and our finishing was good. Hopefully we can put our bad run behind us and get a few results under our belts."
Purton Reserves were beaten 4-1 by fellow strugglers Pewsey. A goal down at the break from a strike by James Wheeler, Purton equalised through Rob Inglish but back came the visitors to add further goals from Russell Fishlock, Barry Flippance and Kevin Montague.
Marlborough held second-placed Corsham to a 1-1 draw, Stuart Dryden giving the visitors an interval lead, Darren Old equalising in the second half. Bromham and Westbury also drew 1-1, a Darren Brown free-kick in the first half for Bromham and a strike by Jim Pickernell for the visitors in the second.
Two goals from Simon Drewitt gave Devizes Town Reserves a 2-1 win at Warminster, Tom Welch on target for the home side after the break.
Junior One leaders Down Ampney gained a 3-1 success over Stratton Rovers with goals from Arthur and Dave Levitt and Terry Moore, Neil Brimson for Rovers.
Westside beat Cricklade Reserves 4-1 John Webb (2), Steve Shaw and Craig Roberts the scorers, Delroy Fallon scoring a consolation for the visitors.
Mark Langford scored the winner for AFC Stratton Reserves in their 3-2 win over Lower Stratton, a 30 yarder from Pete Robinson and a strike from Liam Humphreys the other scorers.
Strikes by Craig Shand and Ajay Sahota gave Swindon Asians a 2-0 win over Blusdon United and Ferndale Rodbourne did well to beat Minety 2-1, Terry Bown and Stuart Marriott on target.
Second-in-the-table Wroughton gained a point at Biddestone in a 1-1 draw, Kevin Ackrill for the Swindon side and Matt Williamson for the home outfit.
In Junior Two, Blunsdon Reserves beat Barron Heating 2-0 with goals from Luke Hambridge and Clive Eccleston, Chiseldon Castrol drew 3-3 with Westlecott and Pinhurst OB beat Dynamobury 3-2.
