THE carnival in Marlborough will continue to be held in September and will revert to having a Sunday procession, its organising committee has agreed.
About a dozen supporters turned up at a meeting held at The Crown Hotel in The Parade last Wednesday to launch the 2005 event.
There was a suggestion that the carnival week should be brought forward to the half term week of the late spring bank holiday.
This was the traditional carnival week until it was moved to September in 2003 in the hopes of attracting floats from the Devizes and Pewsey carnivals.
However it was agreed that there was not enough time to plan a May carnival for 2005 and to continue with the event taking place on the second weekend in September.
It was agreed to switch the parade back to a Sunday amid concern expressed about maintaining the goodwill of traders, who would be hit by any move to close the High Street to traffic.
The committee will next meet on Wednesday, at 7.30pm in The Crown when it is hoped more of the town's clubs and groups will be represented.
