Ref. 75771-86The children of Moredon Junior School found a smart way of raising £1,000 for survivors of the tsunami.
Each pupil was given a tube of Smarties and, after they had finished the sweets, they were asked to fill the tubes with change.
It took just 10 days to raise the impressive total.
Headteacher Lauren Connor said: "The response was overwhelming and, in just 10 days, the figure raised exceeded any expectations.
"The children in the upper school have been learning about the effects of the tsunami in detail geography and all the teachers have been answering questions about what happens next and what the funds they have raised might be used for.
"In extraordinary times, extraordinary measures are needed and this group of extraordinary children have risen to the challenge."
