TREE-lined avenues in the Pipers Way area could be protected in the future.
People living there are being asked whether they want them to be subject to conservation orders.
These would restrict development, ensuring the character of the areas remained unchanged.
Avenues under consideration are Carlisle, Bouverie, Corby, Lambourn, Scotby, Sandown and Greywethers.
The idea has been put forward by the Pipers Way Residents' Association.
Chairwoman Gwenda Barnes said: "We are exploring the pros and cons, and the next stage is to find out how local residents feel about it. It would mean tighter planning controls, which would be a good thing.
"These wonderful tree-lined avenues were all built in the same style, with bay windows and a distinct roofline."
Householders are being asked to fill in questionnaires, which are being distributed with the association's latest newsletter.
