I am amazed and saddened at the way that local politicians can play political games with facilities which are of major importance to the people.
The north Wiltshire group who dominate county cabinet forced the livestock market off the Cocklebury Road site, not allowing time for an alternative site to be found.
When one of that group complains publicly that "it's going to be very damaging to the countryside. People aren't going to have livestock if they've nowhere to sell it", one must conclude that either they are out of touch with reality, or that it is just a political game for them.
The future of the rural economy and the wishes of the users of the record office have both been ignored.
Disregarding the weight of evidence against them, they push on regardless.
Empty expressions of anger over a livestock market closure for which they were responsible fools no-one.
Farmers know who to blame for doubling the cost of transporting their animals to market.
Wiltshire people have long memories as the County Council cabinet will find to their cost.
