THE Gazette reports that the district council is seeking to raise revenue by introducing parking meters in the Market Place.
Perhaps it is time for the district council to practise what it preaches. The parking places at the council offices which are currently reserved for councillors and staff should be made available to the public and parking meters introduced. This would make additional parking places available for shoppers and raise revenue.
Councillors and council staff should come to work by bus, bicycle and Shank's pony, as they expect others to do. They should remember that their free parking is actually paid for by the same local council tax payers and local business rate payers who suffer from the council's traffic and parking policies.
