UP to 20,000 businesses in the south west could be at risk of flooding, according to the Environment Agency.
The agency has launched an online advice service for small to medium-sized businesses to limit the flood threat.
The Wiltshire Times first reported the extent of flooding risks to west and north Wiltshire towns in October, after the Environment Agency produced a map showing areas at risk.
The agency estimates up to 19,500 businesses in the region could be affected by flooding and said up to 42 per cent could incur costs in excess of £50,000 in the event of serious floods.
Barbara Young, chief executive of the Environment Agency, said: "Preparing for a flood makes good business sense.
"Even a relatively minor flood can result in business disruption, staff problems, and property damage and, sometimes, hefty recovery costs."
