VOLUNTEERS are being asked to come forward to help make a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people in Wiltshire.
Wiltshire County Council's independent visitor scheme is looking for people to befriend young people in local authority care.
Sheila Lupton, manager of the scheme, said: "The independent visitor scheme is great for both volunteers and young people.
"We match the independent visitors with young people according to their interests, personalities and preferences.
"This means they usually get on really well and often become friends for life."
Volunteers must be over 21 and be willing to make a commitment to meet the young person for a couple of hours once or twice a month.
One young person involved in the scheme said: "It's fun because you look forward to going out to different places and you can talk to them if you have a problem."
No qualifications are needed and training and support will be given.
