MATT Caines is looking forward to a fresh start at Biddestone after enduring a miserable few months at Premier Division Welton Rovers.

The central defender signed for the Screwfix League new boys this week after a bust-up with his previous manager and is expecting to make his debut in tomorrow's match at Ilfracombe.

Caines, 25, was a regular in the Welton line up before a change in manager brought about a change in fortune for him.

He said: "I was playing quite well for them at the start of the season but I then had an argument with the manager over a game against Mangotsfield.

"After that he just refused to play me and was putting players not as good in me in the starting line up. He had his favourites and I knew I was fighting a lost cause over there.

"It was as though he was interested in playing his friends rather than winning games and I am glad to be out of there."

Caines was a spectator at Biddestone's draw with Cadbury Heath two weeks ago and is excited about the challenge of trying to lift Biddestone away from the bottom of the table.

He said: "It is a very good set-up over there and they also have good links with Chippenham which is a plus point.

"The manager has told me he is about to sign a few new players and I think we have a good chance of climbing the table."

The defender will go into the line up for tomorrow's trip to Ilfracombe, with Ollie McAninch pushed forward into attack.

Boss Gary Skidmore said: "I am delighted to have signed Matt as he has played a good standard of football.

"We are yet to pick up a point away from home and that has to change because that record is pretty dire."
