30108/1TSUNAMI AID: A LANDLORD who organised a race night at his pub near Warminster has raised over £9,000 for the tsunami appeal.
David Deacon organised the night with pub manager Nikki Broady at the George Inn, Longbridge Deverill.
Over 100 customers bid for the horses and other items that had been donated.
They sponsored 64 horses and the pub's suppliers helped out by providing food and drink.
Mr Deacon, who also set up and runs the Rose Charity to help Warminster children, was delighted with the night's success.
He said: "Nikki and I were watching the television on December 29 and saw the devastation that was going on there.
"We looked at each other and thought 'what can we do to help?'
"I got on the phone the next day and spoke to our customers and suppliers and the whole thing was sold out within 24 hours.
"Everyone had a really good time and was typical of our customers that they were so willing to help."
All the £9,180 raised has been sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
