WITH the London marathon just 11 weeks away a Trowbridge man is training hard to run for a local charity.
Wayne Palmer, 33, of Boundary Walk, hopes to raise at least £3,000 for Dorothy House Hospice, Winsley.
He said: "I am training hard and enjoying it because I know I am getting better. I am scared but I am looking forward to the marathon. I think it will be an amazing experience."
Mr Palmer has to raise at least £1,500 as a golden bond charity entrant, but hopes to more than double that. He already has some corporate and personal sponsorship and has produced a calendar featuring staff members from local DC Leisure centres in the nude, the proceeds of which will be added to the pot.
He has organised two events next month to boost funds. A quiz night will be held at the Beef and Barge, Widbrook, on February 23 from 7.30pm. The competition is open to teams of up to four and costs £5 per team.
Chicago Rock Caf will play host to a Black and White masked ball from 7.30pm on February 27.
