AFC Stratton visit Pewsey Vale in the Wilts Premier this weekend and their manager Tony Dyer will be hoping for another good performance from his new line-up, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Forced to ring the changes after a spell of poor results, the Stratton boss appointed former Purton Reserve manager Ian Restell as his assistant and brought in Ricky Mazzotta, Neil Robinson plus Tom Restell from Forest Green.

Mazzotta and Robinson scored two goals apiece and Restell showed up well as they rolled over Melksham 5-0 last weekend.

New assistant boss Restell said he was glad to be involved again in the Wilts League and added: "I have been looking after the Forest Green Under 18 side since leaving Purton and hopefully we will be able to sign on a couple more players from the Green.

"There is nowhere to go from the Under 18 side and the Wilts Premier is a good standard for the youngsters to play in.

"It was a good result last week and hopefully we can push on up the table.

"I understand from Tony Dyer the same squad will be available for our trip to Pewsey Vale."

Cricklade Town are in cracking form and have a home game with Bromham this weekend.

Strikers Ian Ross and Ben Carter are proving to be a handful for their opponents and knocking in their fair share of goals.

Manager Graham Jackson thinks his side has just got to keep the form going and become more consistent.

"We have played most of the top sides in the league so if we can keep winning and perhaps the teams at the top beat each other we can make up some lost ground," he said.

"Our new keeper Stuart Page seems to have settled in the side well and has played a couple of good games for us."

Of the tough looking Wilts Senior Cup draw against Hellenic Premier side Highworth, Jackson said: "It was probably the hardest draw we could have had. Of the teams left in the competition they look the likely favourites and perhaps there are other teams we would rather have played.

"Everyone connected with the club is looking forward to the tie and it will be how the teams play on the day.

"If we play like we did at Melksham we could give them a game."

New College will be keen to get back on the winning track following their defeat at Cricklade last week and no doubt manager Pete Horwat's thoughts on the second half will still be ringing in some of the players ears.

League leaders Bradford Town visit Westbury where they could chalk up another win and second place Corsham Town could face a much harder task at Devizes.

Top match in Junior One could well be at Down Ampney where the home side take on neighbours and local rivals Cricklade Town Reserves.

In Junior Two Castle Combe return to league action at Westlecot and will be looking to defend their unbeaten record for the 15th time.

Westlecot, currently second in the table, could make things difficult for their visitors and perhaps remove their unbeaten tag.
