DEVIZES Town fans have been assured they will still have a club to support for the rest of the season.

As was the case at Swindon Town earlier this week, a winding-up order has been issued for unpaid income tax, this time in the name of Devizes Town AFC Ltd.

But Devizes chairman Phil Rossiter has told supporters not to panic the order has nothing to do with the club in its current guise.

Former chairman Chris Belcher moved to turn the club into a Limited Company in 2001. But the club fell heavily into the red and nearly went to the wall 18 months ago.

They were saved when Belcher was ousted and the Nursteed Road outfit reverted to a members only club with special dispensation from the FA.

As such, Devizes Town as we know it today has no relation to the Limited Company to which the winding-up order applies.

Rossiter confirmed: "We reverted back to a members only club in August 2003. As of that date we effectively started a fresh without the major debts.

"So if fans have heard about this there is no need to panic.

"This doesn't effect the club and we are trading fine at the moment."

Former chairman Belcher was evasive when asked about the fate of the Limited Company he helped to form.

"It's nothing to do with me anymore," he said. "As far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist anymore and the solicitors are dealing with the matter."

It's business as usual on the field as Devizes travel to Bishop Sutton in the Screwfix Premier Division tomorrow.

Manager Mark Godley has doubts over recent signing Dave Kilmurray (hamstring) and Nigel Perkins who has stitches in a head wound.

In the First Division, Calne entertain fellow promotion hopefuls Dawlish without Danny Jones, Eddie Drury and brothers Matt and Rytan Pratley who are all on a skiing holiday. Darren Smart is also out injured.

Elsewhere, Biddestone travel to Ilfracombe and Corsham host Saltash in the Les Phillips Cup.
