A COMEDY night is to be held in Swindon to raise money for victims of the tsunami disaster.
The event will be organised by Swindon Council and the Swindon Tsunami Appeal Fundraising Fortnight and takes place at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town on Sunday.
A top line-up of comedy acts has been put together by organiser Shaun Buswell, managing director of 4th Street Music and Adver music columnist, and all those taking part are doing so for free.
Swindon's Cabinet member with responsibility for the arts, Coun Jemima Milton, said: "We were one of the first councils in the area to issue licenses for the Disaster Emergency Committee to carry out street collections in the area immediately after Christmas.
"This was a splendid start but we wanted to do something else and someone came up with the idea of the council donating the use of the Arts Centre for a fundraising event."
The event takes place at 7pm and tickets cost £5 and can be bought from the Arts Centre box office on 01793 614837.
"From that idea came this comedy evening which sounds great fun.
"I hope we have a full house."
"In addition, many of our staff have been volunteering up at the collection depot at Wroughton in their own time and staff and councillors have donated nine van loads of goods for the same appeal.
