DORSET and Wilts suffered last gasp heartache when the last kick of the match condemned them to defeat.
Playing with the wind at their backs, the Twin Counties team started tentatively, but a nice break by Chris Hale resulted in a penalty by Adam Jones.
Dorset and Wilts, captained by Ollie Goss at scrum half, began to string together a kicking game and in the murky conditions a Bath error saw winger Martin Chapman touch down for a try and Jones converted.
Bath's forwards were dominating the Dorset and Wilts pack but a sterling defensive effort from James Kay and Jamie Harris on the flanks and number eight Christian Spence effectively spoiled the platform that might have been created.
In the second half, the visitors were unlucky to lose lock Nick Stringer, who was harshly sin-binned for handling in a ruck and minutes later the Bath fly half exploited a gap to touch down under the posts for a converted try.
An offside in midfield allowed Bath's Scott Simmons to level the scores from the 10 metre line.
With time running out, Bath won a scrum against the head with a wicked ricochet following a clean strike from hooker Jonathan Birch.
With the referee then awarding a penalty to Bath right in front of the posts, the home side won the game with the last kick of the match.
