SIMON Leat believes there are signs of better things to come after Trowbridge's Southern Counties South League defeat to high flyers Frome on Saturday.

The Trowbridge director of rugby reckoned the scoreline was flattering to the hosts and said his side had to build on the performance.

A severe dip in form has seen Trowbridge drop to fourth from bottom in the division but Leat hopes the performance can give them the confidence to embark on a winning run.

He said: "That was our best performance since before Christmas and hopefully we can now put a stop to our lull in form.

"There were a couple of turning points when we drove over the try line, but the referee was unable to give the score because he was unsighted. That was disappointing because if one of the tries had been given the result could have been very different."

After being on the back foot for the opening 10 minutes, Frome scored the opening try following a speculative kick down field that Trowbridge failed to gather.

The visitors continued to push forward but Frome's well drilled defence held firm and just before the break they scored again in the corner.

In the second half, Trowbridge were unlucky not to score on two separate occasions when they were denied tries by the officials.

Midway through the half, Trowbridge were finally rewarded for their pressure through a penalty by full back Lloyd Davis.

In the final quarter Frome added another try and a penalty to clinch the victory.
