HIGHWORTH paid the penalty for their inaccuracy from the spot.

John Fisher's men battled back from two goals down to level in their League Cup tie at Almondsbury.

But Shaun Terry missed a last-minute spot-kick to win the game and the Swindon side succumbed in a shoot-out as Andy Minturn failed to net.

The hosts were in control at the break after two goals in five minutes from Craig Davidge and Phil Walsh gave them a cushion.

But the visitors responded well in the second half and Matty Saye's double addressed the balance. Saye was then brought down at the death but Terry ballooned the resulting penalty over the bar.

Neither side managed to score in the additional half-hour, forcing a shoot-out.

Terry atoned for his miss by scoring but Minturn was unable to do likewise and Almondsbury triumphed 5-3.

The exercise wasn't a complete waste of time though.

Fisher tinkered with a new wing-back system and was happy with the result.

"We looked a lot better for it," he said.

"We gave away two sloppy goals but we didn't cave in.

"Obviously we wanted to go through, but I'd rather lose in the cup than drop three points in the league."

Highworth's Justin Miller and Jamie Mills have been named in the Hellenic League representative squad to face their Screwfix counterparts on February 23.
