The naming of the next Bishop of Swindon should take place in mid-February.
It is due to happen at the Science Museum in Wroughton.
John Lloyd, spokesman for the Bristol Diocese which serves Swindon, said: "The new Bishop was chosen from a list of three before Christmas, but work commitments and other issues have made it more sensible to delay the announcement until mid-February.
It is understood that the new bishop and his family will be based at Mark House in Field Rise, which was home to the former Bishop, Michael Doe, who left his post last spring.
Michael Doe served the town for 10 years.
In November, he was commissioned into the post of general secretary of United Society of the Propagation of the Gospel by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
