Ref. 75742-104TSUNAMI APPEAL: A WOMAN who is collecting mobile phones to send to survivors of the Asian tsunami says that she has received more than 30 phones in the last week.

Alison Mitchell, a quantity surveyor from Liden, was in Sri Lanka at the time of the disaster.

She says that mobile phones there are expensive but calls cost little.

She said: "When we were leaving we were talking to people and lots of them were asking us to send phones back.

"The collection is going really well. It's just started to take off in the last week."

Alison, 44, says that sending phones will help the Sri Lankan people stay in touch with each other.

She said: "Lots of them have lost family members and this will help them keep in touch with the family they still have."

You can donate your old mobile phones at the Liden Community Centre and the Liden Arms, Liden.
