THE potential danger to the proposed Wiltshire and Swindon Records Office from the immediately adjacent electrical substation and transformers has been raised repeatedly, with no response from officers or councillors.
There is not one, but two huge transformers in the Cocklebury Road substation, with twice the potential for a devastating fire and/or explosion with double the potential destructive capacity.
The ability of the fire brigade to deal with such an emergency would be seriously curtailed by the limited access to the site. The fire service would be unable to tackle the fire directly because of the 33,000 volt power lines adding the danger of potentially lethal voltage. Yet the Fire Brigade has not been consulted!
For Wiltshire county and Swindon borough councils to attempt to go ahead with the scheme, being aware of the potential dangers and without involving key authorities is grossly irresponsible.
