SCOTTISH art rockers Franz Ferdinand have scooped five nominations for next month's NME Awards.

Last year they won the Mercury Music Prize for their self-titled debut album and are expected to be the biggest winners at this month's Brits.

They are now up for five NME awards at the event on February 17, including best British band, best single and best album.

Frontman Alex Kapranos said: "Getting five nominations is fantastic news. It's made all the more special by the fact that these have been voted for by the fans.

"It's been such a great year and receiving such an acknowledgement from the public makes it even more of an honour."
