WITH reference to the letter from Mary Ratcliffe of Old Town. I watched the funeral of the great Sir Winston Churchill on television.
I was living in Egham, Surrey at the time. As soon as the journey by train left Waterloo, we went to Egham Station to watch the train go through.
As the station bridge was packed with people we went to the next level crossing down the line. This too was crowded but we managed to get a good view. All the men bared their heads what a sight.
Incidentally the signal box there is long gone but the crossing keeper's cottage is now occupied by my sister.
