ALAN REEVES points to two of Town's League One peers as a warning that change doesn't always trigger fantastic success.

As the players headed for training awaiting news of Andy King's management proposals with Mick Harford's name still lingering in the air one of his most loyal servants is adamant that rash decisions can prove costly in football.

King has stuck by Reeves through thick and thin, including a particularly sticky period two years ago when sections of the crowd roared at the referee to send the defender off rather than merely book him.

However, the 37-year-old insists his support for King is not fuelled by any sense of owing him a favour.

He said: "I think the gaffer is enjoying what he does and the lads want him to be here.

"Everyone behind the scenes is happy for him to carry on what he's doing.

"The lads appreciate the fact that he explains his decisions. If someone's left out then they're told why.

"I've played for some managers who just wouldn't speak to you if you weren't playing."

Reeves watched Barnsley entertain Bradford earlier in the week and although both clubs slowly seem to be turning around, they have gone through numerous managers during respective struggles on and off the pitch.

Reeves said: "I think Barnsley have had seven managers or so in the last seven years, while Bradford have had six in a similar period.

"They might be turning the corner now but they've both been at much higher levels and dropped down.

"Sometimes a change works, but most of the time it doesn't, unless that is you can give the manager a million quid when he comes in."

Whatever the comings and goings over the next few days, Reeves says the players will not be distracted from trying to keep the season alive.

He said: "Maybe we did over achieve last year, I don't know? We've lost a couple of good players since then and not really replaced them.

"Having said that we can still make the play-offs.

"Look at the money Bristol City have to spend on their playing budget and we're only two points behind them."

Reeves feels Town are now fighting it out for fifth or sixth spot.

He said: "We ended with 73 points and if we can get to or around the 70 mark again then I think we've got every chance."
