GAZETTE & HERALD: YOUNG people in Corsham will have the opportunity to see what their town has to offer them at a youth festival scheduled for May 14.
The one-day event is still on the drawing board but, in a first for Corsham, it will show youngsters that there is more to do than just hang around the streets.
Ideas currently in the arena are the mobile skate park, graffiti art and dance and drama performances.
Youth centres across the county will be holding an X Factor style singing competition until April and it has been suggested that the Corsham contest is held on the evening of the festival.
Youth development coordinator in training Helen McNally, who is joint organiser of the festival, said: "The youth festival is aimed at showing young people what is on offer in their area."
Representatives from youth partnerships, such as Connexions, Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership, Youth Action Wiltshire, the youth Development Service and the police came together on January 18 to discuss the festival. There is another meeting on February 15. Anyone who wants to volunteer their services, help run it or has anything to contribute, especially young people, can contact Helen McNally at Mansion House on (01249) 712250.
