CHIPPENHAM will have their work cut out when they travel to a revitalised Grantham on Saturday.

When ex-Nottingham Forest star Lee Glover took over the Gingerbreads in October, Grantham were facing a relegation battle.

But an impressive run of results has seen the midlanders shoot up the table and are now just four points away from the play off spots.

Grantham are in good form and will be gunning for a result against the Bluebirds having seen off title chasing Merthyr Tydfil 3-2 and Kings Lynn 5-1 in January.

Glover is relishing the thought of trying to topple another of the Southern League's title contenders at their South Kesteven Sports Stadium.

He said: "I'm looking forward to it, Chippenham have been consistent all season and it will be a stern test for us.

"It was a very close game between us at Hardenhuish Park and we managed well to sneak a point."

The club's recent push up the league table has pleased Glover but he has not set his sights on promotion.

"We are moving in the right direction but our aim is to stay in this league, if we reach the play-offs it will be a bonus.

"We are just taking every game as it comes, and have a lot of difficult matches around the corner, we will just have to see what happens," he added.

There have been some major reshuffling at the club since Glover's arrival with his first signing Jason Turner making an immediate impact at Grantham.

Turner has netted 13 times since his switch from local rivals Stamford and is Glover's man to watch on Saturday.

Last week Turner was joined at the Gingerbreads by his ex-teammate from Stamford and fellow striker James Rowe.

The manager has some suspensions coming up and has needed to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season.

Also, last week, Glover swooped for experienced midfielder Jamie Wilson, signing from Conference side Burton Albion.

For the visit of Chippenham, Glover will be missing midfield general Willis Francis, who starts a suspension on Saturday.

But he will be the only player missing from the squad that has jumped from relegation strugglers to promotion hopefuls in three months.
