CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: PACESETTERS West Lavington were delighted to come away with a point from fellow title hopefuls Box Rovers on Sunday.

Lavington lost the reverse fixture 3-1 and looked on course for a second defeat after trailing twice, but they showed real determination to hit back and claim a 2-2 draw.

Brian Duggan gave Rovers the lead in the 35th minute only for Lavington's Darren Thorpe to level five minutes later. Rovers dominated the second half, hitting the woodwork on a number of occasions before Tom Smith put them back in front.

After having what looked a perfectly good appeal for a penalty turned down Lavington's equaliser came from the spot eight minutes from time, calmly tucked away by Simon Drewitt.

Dog and Fox Ashley defeated Trowbridge Harriers 3-0 to hang on to second spot. The Dog's sixth win on the trot was inspired by Mark Gerrish, who put the Bradford side in front in the 40th minute after they had been outplayed by the Harriers.

Ricky Trott beat a host of players before scoring an excellent individual effort to make it 2-0 after 60 minutes, and Steve Roddy killed the game off with his 13th of the season.

Bradford News slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat when losing 2-1 at Maud Heath Sports. Sports scored the only goal of an uneventful first period in the 16th minute when Simon Hillier's flick on was knocked home by Dean Slade.

In spite of their 3-1 loss, Colerne still remain in pole position, just ahead of Corsham Centre who claimed a far from impressive 5-2 win over Chippenham Police.

North Star confirmed their improved form of late was not just a flash in the pan as early goals from Pete Thornton and Simon Gardner set them up nicely. Mark Sharrett hit the Star's third with Jake Jefferies bagging a consolation.

A competitive display from Chippenham Police saw them hold Corsham Centre to 1-1 after 43 minutes, but an under par Centre side, missing the the highly influential Craig Gingell, went on to score two late goals to provide a flattering 5-2 scoreline.

The Police, who had lost 10-1 to their opponents earlier in the season, started brighter and played more physical football in an attempt to frustrate a younger, quicker Corsham side.

However, Corsham Centre went 1-0 up on 12 minutes via Michael Higson.

Using their height up front, with Steve Davis and Tim Culling causing problems, it was pressure by Davis that caused Corsham defender Kev Brown to head into his own net on 20 minutes.

Police looked like they could see out the first half on level terms but Corsham's Simon Gray ran through unchallenged to score in the last minute.

With Corsham kicking down the slope in the second half they must have fancied going on to win comfortably, especially when James Lye was left unmarked to finish well and make it 3-1.

The Police dug deep and always looked dangerous on the counter attack and their efforts were rewarded on 75 minutes when Jason Roberts scored a breathtaking lob from 35 yards. But any chance of a shock was over on 80 minutes when the Police keeper Martin Notman dropped a simple cross to Richard Boore to extend their lead. Corsham went on to make it 5-2 through Jon Bartlett.

Paul Daly returned from a three month lay off to fire the Horse in front, and Paul Bendell gave them a 2-0 interval lead but had United not wasted numerous chances the scoreline may well have been 5-2 in their favour.

Daly curled home a glorious second and when Tim Cross drilled home a stunning effort from 18 yards the game was over for United. Two more efforts from Bendell saw him complete his second treble of the season.

Chippenham Sports & Social Club went down 3-0 at home to Semington Rovers. An own goal after good work from Stuart Donohoe saw Rovers move ahead, Nathan Walker's 30 yard free kick and Dave Castle's strike all in the first period saw Rovers triumph over their old adversaries.

Spencer Sports are sitting pretty at the top of the pile as their 4-1 win over Biddestone Arms saw them open up a four-point gap on the chasing pack.

Further goals from Taylor and Royston Aust saw Spencer home to their 11th win of the season.

Southwick Sports remain on the tails of the leading clubs following their 5-0 triumph at Corsham Park Rangers. Chris Fardell gave Southwick the lead but it was substitute Steve Jackson that made sure the points would be returning home with the villagers.
