Budding young actors are needed to take part in an innovative piece of theatre and help teach new Wiltshire County Councillors what's what.

The county council is looking for 15 young thespians aged between 14 and 18 years old, so they can put together short plays to show new local councillors the aims of the authority following county council elections in May.

The county council is teaming up with the Big State Theatre Company and Theatre Works, an organisation which helps to promote theatre in Wiltshire and Swindon.

This opportunity is absolutely free to the young people taking part.

The young people involved will develop five playlets covering each of the county council's main aims.

With the help of Big State they will research, write and perform the works.

The experience of making and devising theatre will help to both develop and stimulate their imaginations and enhance their teamwork skills.

Director of Theatre Works, Deryck Newland, said: "This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity for young actors to get involved with a very real production and work with professional artists.

"They will learn invaluable new theatre skills and pick up some useful hints and tips from the professionals."

Head of the Wiltshire County Council's youth development service, David Whewell, said: "We were looking for something to really make the council's aims come alive for new councillors after the elections in May.

"We want to tap into the talent, energy and enthusiasm of young people locally to inspire the new councillors."

Young people interested in taking part should contact Deryck Newland, on (01793) 328762. They will be invited to taster sessions on February 15 at the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge.
