THE days of silent movies are set to return to Marlborough with a double showing to raise funds for the Riverbank theatre/cinema project.
Classic slapstick humour set to live piano, just as it was in the olden days of cinema, will be the order of the day at St Peter's Church on Friday, February 11.
Two classic movies from the silent era will be shown, Steamboat Bill Jr starring Buster Keaton and Never Weaken featuring another king of the silent slapstick era , Harold Lloyd.
Both movies feature the actors carrying out all their own stunts.
James Harpham who lives near Calne has composed his own arrangements to accompany the films.
Mr Harpham is a composer-pianist and is credited with the scores for a number of TV series and films including Tenko, Chronicle, The Witches and The Killing Fields.
The projectionist for the silent movie show will be Alistair Goolden who has been involved with the Bath Film Festival for 12 years.
Tickets for the evening, which starts at 7pm, cost £10 (students £5) and are available from the White Horse Bookshop or can be reserved by ringing (01672) 514810.
Plans for the Riverbank, which is proposed to be built in the water meadow by the George Lane car park, have been submitted to Kennet District Council.
