WE are writing in reply to the article regarding the wearing of white wristbands at Dauntsey's School, published on January 20.
Dauntsey's School retains a unique sense of community and we feel that this article does not reflect the attitude of the school with respect to our active support of various charities.
In this particular case the pupil in question was asked to remove a large armband worn over the school uniform and not the wristband specified in the article.
In fact, the official 'make poverty history' wristbands are being sold for pupils and staff at the school shop. Indeed, a variety of wristbands are commonly worn throughout the school in support of a number of charitable causes.
The general ethos of Dauntsey's School is to allow pupils to express their support of any charitable venture. In this last week alone there have been two separate charity events organised by pupils on their own accord to raise money for the tsunami disaster and the Mathieson Music School, an orphanage in India, and our school charity this year.
All the pupils were shocked to see our school represented falsely and we hope that the Gazette and Herald will take our comments into consideration.
