A MAN from Melksham told a court he had given up boozing after his latest brush with the police.
Todd McEntegart, 21, of Woodstock Gardens, had drunk 10 cans of lager when he was arrested after shouting and swearing at officers on January 7.
He admitted a public order offence when he appeared before magistrates in Chippenham on Thursday.
Rhys Davies, prosecuting, said police spotted McEntegart when they had come to arrest another person in Melksham at around 10pm and warned him about this behaviour.
He said: "He was swearing. He then walked in an intimidating manner towards the police officer, who had warned him. He was asked to calm down otherwise he would be arrested."
The court heard McEntegart had convictions for criminal damage and assault from 2003.
Defending himself, McEntegart said: "I had too much to drink. A lot of my problems are when I've had too much to drink.
"I haven't drunk since that incident on January 7."
McEntegart was fined £50 and ordered to pay £35 costs.
