NEGOTIATIONS are taking place about the future of Waverley House in Melksham. The former care home was closed in June last year amid a flurry of protests.
Now Wiltshire County Council, which owns the building, is in talks with West Wiltshire Housing Society.
A spokesman for the council said: "We are in negotiations with West Wiltshire Housing Society at the moment. They have expressed an interest in buying the site.
"I believe they are working with planners at the district council to look into what they are wanting to do with the site."
A spokesman for West Wiltshire Housing Society said: "We are always looking around at things but we are not buying it at the moment."
Residents who live next to Waverley House, on Semington Road, attended a Melksham Town Council meeting on Monday to ask about the future of the building, because they believe it affects their property prices in the area.
The town council resolved to write to the county council and West Wiltshire Housing Society.
