A BID for a gypsy caravan site in Melksham has been turned down. The proposed site for a single caravan would have been north of Western Way, a few yards from the River Avon.
The application aimed to raise the level of the land by one metre to provide one pitch for a residential gypsy caravan.
Town councillors voted against the application and it has now been rejected by West Wiltshire District Council planning officers for a number of reasons.
These included that it was remote from services, employment opportunities and public transport and that it would be on the site of a flood plain where ground raising could have a detrimental effect on flood levels through Melksham.
