BIDDESTONE boss Gary Skidmore is planning a swoop for two of his former stars in a bid to save his side's Screwfix League status.

Seven days' notice of approach have been made for Corsham Town's Jamie Lyons and Melksham Town's John O'Meara, players who helped Biddestone to promotion last season.

Both players are currently struggling to hold down a regular starting place in the Premier Division and Skidmore hopes he can lure them back.

Lyons, 18, was one of Biddestone's shining lights last season and caught the eye of Corsham boss Colin Bush with a string of exciting performances.

The winger moved to the Southbank in the summer but, despite making the last 32 in the England Schoolboys' trials, has only made three starts for the first team.

He said: "When I joined Corsham, I knew I would not immediately win a place in the first team but I did think I would get more chances than I have. I am only young and want to be playing first team football so it has been a bit frustrating so far this season.

Lyons is expecting a phone call from Skidmore today to discuss the possible move but said he will have a lot of thinking to do.

He said: "It took me about three weeks to decide to leave Biddestone in the summer, because I had some great times there.

"The advantage of moving back there is I would be guaranteed first team football and that is something I need to seriously consider.

"My mind is not made up either way at the moment so we will just have to see what happens."

O'Meara, 28, moved to Melksham at the start of October but, despite a good goal-to-game return, has lost his starting place at the Conigre to David Blake.

Prior to his move to Melksham, O'Meara had spent his entire career at Biddestone and after signing refused to rule out a return to his former club in the future.

The burly target man is away on a skiing holiday but Skidmore is hoping to tie up the deal next week.

Said Skidmore: "It would be a massive boost if we could get them. Both are Biddestone lads and a few of our players have heard that they want to move from their present clubs."

Neither is likely to be signed in time for tomorrow's match at Street, a game which Skidmore is furious is being played.

He said: "Up until two weeks ago we had a blank weekend so some of our players decided to go away but now they have re-scheduled a game it is too late for our players to change their plans."
