IT'S bottom versus top in the Wiltshire Premier Division this weekend when Purton Reserves take on leaders Corsham Town at the Red House, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Purton boss Gary Brown has kept his troops going despite some disappointing results and a defeat by fellow strugglers Pewsey Vale failed to help the cause last weekend.

"We know Corsham are a good side but I think our league position doesn't tell the whole story," said Brown.

"We have played well at times and you can be sure we will be giving it all we've got this weekend and you never know.

"We've got Jack Baverstock back from suspension and Ray Wakely will be helping me out for the rest of the season. He's bought along a couple of new faces and they could be in line for selection.

"With the first team beginning to pick up in the Hellenic League, morale at the club is beginning to build and hopefully we can do our bit and start winning a few games."

AFC Stratton will be looking for a change of luck at home to Bromham but the visitors are no easy touch these days. Manager John Boatman has added a few new faces to the squad and they're becoming difficult to beat.

Stratton's Tony Dyer has said that he can't fault his side for effort in recent weeks but feels that they haven't had the rub of the green. "We have played some good football at times but need a win to set the confidence flowing," he said.

New College have a must- win game at home to Melksham in their challenge to leaders of the section.

A defeat at Cricklade and a draw against Warminster have dented their title hopes slightly and they need to get back on the winning path again.

Cricklade had last week's game called off and they are beginning to fall behind with their league fixtures. They will be hoping their pitch gets the go-ahead this weekend against visitors Shrewton.

With the Wilts Senior Cup semi-final at Highworth on the horizon manager Graham Jackson will be keen to get a game into his side.

Pick of the matches in Junior Division One is the Westside versus Down Ampney encounter. Joe O'Rourke's Westside outfit are third in the table and have turned in some useful performances of late.

Leaders Down Ampney are clear at the top of the table by 13 points but could well find that this is one of their toughest matches so far.

Castle Combe still unbeaten in Junior Two after 15 games are at home to Dynamobury and the Swindon side will find it very difficult to stop them taking their tally to 16 matches without defeat. Current leaders of the section AFC Abbey Rodbourne are at home to Westside Reserves and should add another three points to their total.

In the second round of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup Wroughton play AFC Stratton Reserves in a tie that could well go into extra time.
