AMBITIOUS Shrivenham Football Club is set for another big cash boost to improve further facilities at their Recreation Ground.
The Hellenic League Division One West club has been awarded a grant of £51,500 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund to help finance the installation of floodlights and further ground improvements.
It was only 21 months ago that the club received a substantial £215,652 grass roots grant from the Football Foundation to build new modern community changing facilities at the ground.
Delighted chairman Ian Richardson said: "I am thrilled with this latest grant offer which will enable us to add the finishing touches to a superb community football facility in Shrivenham.
"We now need to raise our 25 per cent, which equates to about £17,000. Although very difficult this is certainly achievable and it is hoped that local businesses and friends of the club will rally round."
At present the club have to train throughout the winter on the all-weather pitch at the military college in the village, which they have to hire.
But a good floodlight system would cut out this cost, allow them to train and also play some home mid-week league matches.
Richardson added: "We are under no illusions and know it will be tough to raise the money but we will be going for it.
"Our plan is to hopefully have the floodlights installed for next season."
Meanwhile, Hellenic League Fairford Town are seeking candidates to take up the roles of chairman and treasurer.
