A SWINDON pub served up a slice of American pie to its customers last night to mark the Superbowl.
The American Superbowl, which is the biggest event in the US sporting calendar, has been screened at The Windmill pub in Freshbrook for the past six years.
Landlord Paul Davoile started the tradition after an American customer made the suggestion.
And it has become one of the most popular events of the year at the pub with people travelling from as far as Oxford to enjoy some American food and watch the match.
Paul said: "What happened six years ago is that an American customer of mine asked about it and offered to arrange everything.
"Every year he sells the tickets and brings in lots of American food. It's really good food we serve things like chilli and rice and popcorn.
"People come from far and wide because there are so few pubs that show the game.
"It's a great atmosphere every time they are in their own little worlds watching their own sport and it's just very different."
But despite his enthusiasm for the Superbowl nights at the pub, Paul admits he's not an American football fan. I can't stand the game. I just sit there and think 'what's this all about?'
"But it's still a great occasion because the atmosphere is so good."
This year's Superbowl championship was between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The game was due to finish at 3am English time today.
